The course is run over 5 months.  Each month a module is completed of two days run consecutively.  The course is an ILM accredited level 5 Certificate and attracts QCF credits.  There will be some assignment work! and we will be on hand to guide and support you through that process.

For course dates, click on the menu on left hand side of this page, or scroll down for a day by day and module breakdown.

Module One

Day One - Self Awareness.

How well do you really know yourself? This day turns inwards and guides you to a balanced and honest understanding of yourself, your skills, knowledge and your attitude.   Its both a pragmatic benchmarking day for the ILM aspect of the course and a chance to reflect on what type of leader you are and wish to become.

Day Two - Leadership and Management.

A day spent reflecting on the difference between Leadership and Management in the care environment. This day will get to grips with the skills & knowledge required to manage the resources of a care home.  It is a day about sharing best practise and looking at some fantastic success stories based on easy to follow procedures.

Module Two

Day Three - Beliefs and Communication.

The whole course could have been entitled “communication”.  This day we share with you some pragmatic tools to develop and enhance your ability to communicate in any situation.  The remainder of the day is about Beliefs; often built on the shakiest of foundations!  We explore how they can limit us, empower us and how we recognise them in others.

Day Four - Coaching and motivating a staff team.

Look at the very top leaders and you will notice they spend their time developing others.  Why? Because if you truly want success then you will only get it through the gifted people who choose to follow   This day we will introduce and practise using a highly effective coaching model.  We will also discuss the art and science of motivation.  Finally we introduce the concept of the X,Y and Z generations, the new mindsets, the new perspectives that we will be having to lead and communicate with.

Module Three

Day Five - Day to Day Supervisory skills & Staff Supervision and Appraisal

This day we start with discussing the importance of using supervising as a tool to empower staff.  Then we get to grips with the structure of monthly supervision and how to implement many aspects of the course into those sessions.  Supervision sessions are THE crucial tool of many top managers.

Day Six – Maintaining Standards.

We investigate the structure, key criteria and practical aspects of appraisals, disciplinary procedures and maintaining standards.  Then we evaluate the level at which we are (or not!) modelling the way in terms of performance and maintaining those standards.  This is day for honesty, dissecting good practise and taking control of what you can control....which is usually just you!

Module Four

Day Seven - Managing Conflict and Assertiveness.

Some people love conflict others will spend an enormous amount of energy avoiding it or worse worrying about it.  Learn how to deal with yourself in these situations and then how to coach others to develop coping strategies in their own high stress situations.

Day Eight – Strategic Thinking.

A day of thinking outside the box.  A day of listening to stories from people who may have achieved what you want to ..... whether it’s becoming a centre of excellence, a profitable business or even ...just a quieter, easier life!   A day of stepping back and seeing the whole and deciding, perhaps, what’s next.

Module Five

Day Nine - Inspire a vision through Teams and Meetings.

Get to grips with modern slants on team evolution and pick up a great Team Meeting tool that will make each meeting, more effective, shorter and add value to the organisation.  Learn tools that will deal with the cynic, the “seen it all before” and the “what ever...” attitude. This day will also include a session on how to coach team leaders to run their own meetings and those crucial briefing sessions.

Day Ten - Stretch and Action Planning.

This is a day to review what we have learnt and plan for the next step in your personal journey of development as a leader.  It’s also an opportunity for a stretch...a challenge will be laid down, one that takes you out of your comfort zone, out of your environment, out of the routine that can become 21century life....and the reason for this...........you decide!

So have a think about your next step, chat to some friends and colleagues.  Then pick up the phone and talk to Tim or Darren and if we agree that spending ten days together will benefit you, your organisation and the other delegates then come and join us!
